If you’re thinking about building a new home and want more information about what’s involved, take a look at these frequently asked questions about new build homes and the building process.
Where do we start?
The first step is to meet with us to discuss your requirements. This can be done at our office or we can come to your home or new building site to meet with you. We will go through your ideas with you and discuss various options available to you.
Are consent fees included?
Yes they are. In our contract price all council building consent fees are included.
What makes up the costs of site works?
Driveways, fences, paths, clothesline, wastewater & stormwater systems for rural properties & landscaping. Basically anything outside the area of the building/s.
When can we start building after the consent is issued?
Basically straight away providing we have a crew ready to start. Before we lodge the consent we generally have a time slot already located to you.
Can we do some bits ourselves?
Yes. Any finishing to the building you would like to do we are happy to allow you too. Any restricted building work would need to be completed by our Licensed Practitioners.
Can we use our own subcontractors?
Yes. If you have a preferred subcontractor we are happy to use them if you request that.
Does Freedom Homes deal with the council?
Yes, we deal with all aspects of the Council requirements.
Are drafting fees included?
Yes. All design fees are included in our contract price.
How long does it take?
From our first meeting the whole process takes around 8 months. This does however depend on the size of the project, the availability of our carpenters and on how quickly decisions can be made.
I know what I want, can you just draw up the plans?
Yes. We will work with your design or ours. We are constructing a house for you and we want it to be exactly what you require.
Are all your designers & carpenters licensed?
Yes. We only use licensed employees to complete each project.
Do you use contract carpenters to complete the work?
No. We employee all our own carpenters, apprentices & hammer hands.
