Meet the team
Gordon Spencer
Managing Director / Quantity Surveyor / Contracts Manager– Email Gordon.
Gordon is responsible for sourcing work for the company and assembling construction projects for the team. Contact him to discuss your project—he will listen to your needs and advise on next steps, whether you have initial questions or are ready to begin work now.
Gordon has been involved in the construction industry since 1989, beginning his career with hands-on experience in the building and electrical trades. He joined Waipukurau Construction as a Quantity Surveyor in 1996. In 2002 he co-founded Waipukurau Construction 2002 Limited and assumed the Managing Director’s role. Since then the company has successfully navigated numerous challenges and completed a wide range of projects. Gordon is a Site 2 Licensed Building Practitioner (BP111637).
Sharon Spencer
Administration Manager – Email Sharon.
Sharon looks after the company’s general administration, accounts and payroll. Working from the Hastings office she has a good financial overview of the business and skilfully manages the company’s cashflow. With great organisation and data management skills she keeps on top of the company’s income tax, GST, PAYE and ACC. She is also well versed in the use of IMS Payroll, Reckon Accounts and Xero.
Drawing on her retail experience, she co-founded the construction company with Gordon in 2002 and has since played a key role in guiding the organisation through the complexities of successful business management.
Adam Tostevin
Quantity Surveyor / Contracts Manager.
Adam assists with the quantifying and managing the company’s construction projects. He allocates his time between multiple building sites and the office, engaging in forward planning to ensure project milestones are achieved as planned. He has a broad range of responsibilities also assisting with health and safety, waste management and the company’s plant/equipment inspections. Adam excels in organizing and delivering successful projects and has notable expertise with creating programmes using Microsoft Project.
He is a qualified Quantity Surveyor with a practical background who has worked with Waipukurau Construction since 2018.
David Kendrick
Foreman Carpenter – Email David.
David helps manage our larger worksites and liaises with our Contracts Managers. He directly oversees our carpenters, apprentices and subcontractors whilst managing build quality and health and safety.
David’s building career started with Waipukurau Construction way back in 1981 and since then he has accumulated a wealth of experience. He is a qualified carpenter holding Carpentry and Site 1 Licences (BP103538)

Cilla Cooper
Architectural Designer.
Cilla is responsible for the company's architectural design work, collaborating closely with clients to develop concept plans and produce comprehensive detailed designs. She possesses a strong understanding of the Building Code and local planning regulations. Cilla supports every design and build project from inception to completion, addressing any issues that arise throughout the process. She is proficient in Vectorworks CAD and MasterSpec.
Beginning her career with interior design in 2001 Cilla has a Bachelor of Interior Design degree and has been involved in architectural design work since 2008. Cilla is a licensed designer holding a Design 1 Licence (BP145201).
